People of all ages tested out the new equipment at the Rotary Fitness Park in Big Rapids Thursday evening following the ribbon cutting ceremony for the park. The fitness park was made possible by a crowdfunding campaign and matching grant through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation Public Spaces Community Places program, and was a joint effort between Spectrum Health Hospital, the city of Big Rapids and the Rotary Club of Big Rapids. In addition to the outdoor equipment, the park comes with free WiFi and an app which will give people ideas for new workouts.

Rain Vanica was one of many area youngsters to give the new outdoor Rotary Fitness Park a try on Thursday.

Deb Tyson, former president of the Rotary Club of Big Rapids, said she was very excited to see the fitness park project come to life to be used by the local community.  Following the annual Spectrum Health Big Rapids Hospital Summer Block Party and Health Fair on Thursday, a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Rotary Fitness Park took place. The park is located across from the youth soccer fields on River Street, on the corner of Oak and Willow streets.
